Daal fry or Daal tadka

Yields: 3-4 people
Ingredients

Wash daal 2-3 times in water then soak it for 30-40 mins before cooking.

Now put daal in a pressure cooker, add water, salt & turmeric.

Cook it on high flame for 3 whistles. turn off the flame & let it cool. Daal should be soft after cooked.

In a separate pan or kadai put ghee or oil & jeera. let it crackle.
05.
Add hing (asafoetida) & green chili. saute it..

Now add onions, ginger garlic paste & saute them for a min.

Add tomatoes, then salt, red chili, garam masala & coriander powder & mix nicely.

Cover it with lid & let it cook on a low flame for 2-3 mins. Tomatoes need to become soft & mushy.

Now add kasoori methi & mix it.

Add cooked daal & mix these spices with daal nicely.
11.
Keep the flame high till it come to boil then lower it & keep stirring it.
12.
Stir it & mash it with the spoon & keep repeating it.

This gives daal a nice & creamy consistency.
14.
Check salt & add if required. And consistency, it should be thick & not to watery.
15.
If you feel that its to watery & not thick then keep it boiling till it reaches right consistency.

Now turn of the flame & cover the lid for a min to get a nice aroma.
17.
Serve it hot in a bowl & garnish with coriander leaves.

Enjoy this aromatic & healthy bowl of Daal fry with chapatis or rice.
